Born Josephine C. Steltenpohl, the daughter of Franz Joseph and Caroline (Bencken) Steltenpohl, Sr Mary was a Sister of Mercy, a retired school teacher, and a resident of St Catherine Convent on Broadway. She died at home of heart disease, and following funeral services at the convent's chapel, was interred at Calvary on 2 March 1965.
