"Car plunges off cliff - driver dies" by Gary Klien, Marin Independent Journal (15 Apr 2006; accessed online 27 Jan 2019):

"A 28-year-old Utah man died Friday after driving off a cliff in West Marin. It was the second fatal crash in Marin in less than 13 hours. ... The crash occurred the same day as a collision that killed a 30-year-old woman on Highway 101 north of Novato. Police said the woman was heading south in the fast lane around 9:40 a.m. when she slammed into a garbage truck crossing the freeway at San Antonio Road.

The Marin coroner’s office identified the woman Friday as Ansley Monique Spencer Gunderson, a traveling sales representative. Investigators said her place of residence was unclear but that she has a husband in Monrovia and family in North Carolina.

“She was going to Fireman’s Fund (in Novato) and she was staying at the Sheraton in Petaluma,” said CHP Officer Juan Leon."

Obituary from Kansas City Star, Charlotte Observer and ClarendonLive.com (Clarendon, TX, 20 Apr 2006; accessed online 27 Jan 2019):

"Ansley M. Spencer Gunderson, age 30, died on April 13.

Death was instant when her car hit a trash hauler doing a U-turn on Highway 101 in Marin County, California.

Ansley graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1991, attended Wellesley College, and graduated from University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. Her career started at the age of 13 working in the University of Kansas Medical School for Dr. S. K. Day at his research laboratory. In his retrospective address to colleagues upon leaving KU Med, Dr. Day singled Ansley out as a person of significant importance who assisted him in writing successful grant proposals. Ansley worked for Accenture consulting where her goal was to be one of the youngest women partners.

Ansley married Martin Gunderson on September 16, 2000, in Northfield, Minn. They lived in St. Paul, Minn., Charlotte, North Carolina, and Monrovia, Calif.

In addition to her career efforts, Ansley provided many testimonials about her 12-step recovery at annual conventions, prison meetings, and other opportunities, as she always encouraged others to maintain their programs. Ansley was an exceptional speaker, providing a source of sparkle and fun at any gathering. She is remembered as a very beautiful woman who captivated everyone she touched, with a vibrancy and quality for life that was exceptional.

From a very young age, Ansley always talked about being 30 years old, which she did achieve with grace and love for God and family that were beyond words.

She is survived by her husband, Martin Gunderson, her parents, Merlin and Jacqueline Spencer of Leawood, Kan.; her sister, Heather Spencer of Amenia, New York; her maternal grandmother LaTrice Bell Kent of Shawnee, Kan.; and her paternal grandmother, Alice M. Spencer of Rockwell City, Iowa.

A celebration of her life was held in Kansas City on April 18, at Pilgrim Chapel. Final services will be at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northfield, Minn., at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22."

Additional items in Northfield News obituary (19 Apr 2006; accessed online 27 Jan 2019):

"She was a fearless woman, as evidenced by the story of capturing a purse snatcher. Ansley was taking a friend to the airport when she noticed a woman who seemed to be in distress with two men attacking her along the roadside. Ansley turned her car around; got out to assist this woman; and sent her friend with the car to catch her plane. After confirming the two thieves had taken the purse and left on foot, Ansley literally jogged and walked down the purse snatcher through lawns, backyards, over fences and down side streets, covering three miles in a Charlotte, N.C., neighborhood. Kids on bicycles and others on foot joined in the chase, going ahead of her to keep track of this man. He threw the purse away, but Ansley and a growing crowd persisted. Turns out the woman had just arrived in Charlotte and was waiting at a bus stop to attend her first 12-step meeting. After getting the purse back when police arrived, Ansley took this woman to the meeting, assisted her with housing and encouraged others in her group to help out."

"She is survived by ... her in-laws, Lloyd and Connie Gunderson of Northfield. A celebration of her life was held in Kansas City Tuesday evening, April 18, at Pilgrim Chapel, 3801 Gillham Rd., KCMO starting at 7:30 p.m. Final services are at St. John's Lutheran Church, 500 W. Third St. in Northfield, Minn., at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2006, at St. John's Lutheran Church. A memorial fund has been established for Ansley MS Gunderson at the Gables, 604 SW Fifth St., Rochester, MN 55902. Their staff made Ansley's recovery experience exceptionally positive, as her life's work is testament. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred."
