Fred Koeppen November 1, 1937

Kiel – Fred Koeppen, Sr., 70, passed away at the home of his son in St. Nazianz today after an illness of several months. Mr. Koeppen was born July 22, 1867, in the town of Meeme, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Koeppen. He was married in 1893 to Amelia Quante in the town of Schleswig. His wife preceded him in death in 1931. After their marriage the couple resided in Kiel for three years and then moved to a farm in the town of Meeme. For the last years and a half, Mr. Koeppen lived with his son, Fred, in St. Nazianz.

He is survived by five children, Henry and Alfred of the town of Meeme, Edgar of the state of Washington, Fred of St. Nazianz and Mrs. Reynold Croelle of route 1, Manitowoc; two brothers, William of Port Lake, Wis., and Christian of the town of Meeme; and one sister, Mrs. Wilhelmina Haarmann of Milwaukee. Four grandchildren also survive

Koeppen, Frederick August Heinrich (July 22, 1867-Nov. 1, 1937 –husband of Emelia Quante [married April 3, 1893 in a Lutheran ceremony at the Quante residence in the Town of Schleswig] –son of Christian Koeppen and Maria Prueter –born in Town of Meeme –from Dec. 19, 1896 to Jan. 5, 1931 owed an 80 acre mink ranch at 17023 County F in Section 6, Town of Meeme –sold this farm to his son Henry Koeppen with the stipulation “Grantors reserve the right of three rooms on the first floor and the use of the toilet and room in the basement for vegetables during their natural lifetime.” Soon after this sale, Emilia died on Oct. 4, 1931 –died from “carcinoma of stomach and bowl”) –buried at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery at Louis Corners, Town of Schleswig [marriage record Manitowoc 6-194] [death record Manitowoc 31-598]
