Everett Francis Callis, 88, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 4, 2002. He died in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Matthews County, Va., and was a retired engineer in the Merchant Marine. He was a member of Burrows Memorial Baptist Church for over 25 years, a member of AARP and the Maple Hall Civic League.

Mr. Callis was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Plass Callis; mother and father, Roberta H. and Franklin P. Callis; one sister, Olive Gwynn; and two brothers, Alfred and Howard Callis.

Survivors include his son, Harry W. Callis of Virginia Beach; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Callis; two granddaughters, Debbie Rayburn of Norfolk, and Linda Bailey of Daytona, Fla.; and two great-granddaughters, Kimberly and Emily Rayburn. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and family members who will greatly miss him.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hollomon-Brown, Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. Don Harris. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Burrows Memorial Baptist Church.
