Lizzie worked many different professions caring for people until she was forced to retire at 76, due to health reasons. Among her many jobs, she was a certified dietitian, a CNA, and a cook for several organizations over the years.
Lizzie truly loved her family and was proud to have four generations of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren. She treasured her relationship with her sisters and always enjoyed their many road trips. Lizzie spent her summers around the camp fire, enjoying a PBR at Castle Rock Camp Ground with her companion, Charles “Chuck” Toycen, and her family. She was an avid fisherman and took any opportunity she could to have a line in the water. Lizzie had a photographic memory and was able to describe things in amazing detail. This made her a fantastic storyteller and the unofficial family historian.
Lizzie was a lifelong fan of Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers, and loved watching games on Sunday. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Lizzie is survived by her children, Joseph (Lorrie Bennett) Weger, Thelma (Dennis) Handel, Iva Weger, Kim Munz, Kash (Tanya) Weger, Laurie (Terry) Dunn, David (Tanesha) Weger; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; her sisters, Barbara Haefner, and Norma Shultz; and her dear companion, Chuck; as well as many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph in 1971; her sons, Kurk Weger, and Brad Weger; her grandson, Steven, granddaughter, Danielle; her great-granddaughter, Madyson; her brothers, Lyle Payne, Leo Jones, Leroy “Roy” Payne, and Melvin “Mike” Payne; her sisters, Joyce Bassett, Helen Helms, and Beverly Mack; and numerous other relatives and friends over the years.
A memorial gathering to celebrate her life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm, on Thursday, March 21, 2019.
