A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 14, at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church in Ankeny. Visitation will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ankeny Memorial Gardens with a celebration of life following.
Margaret was born December 29, 1928, in Carney, Iowa, to Mike and Anna Podnar, and was a proud coal miner's daughter. She attended Oralabor School where she met the love of her life, Ray, in second grade and graduated from Woodside High School in 1946.
She and Ray were married at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Carney where they lived for 60 years in the home they built and were blessed with five children.
Margaret worked at John Deere before taking many years away from the workforce taking great pride as a mother raising her children. She later returned to the workforce and retired as a bookkeeper from Bavarian Haus in 1991. She was a member of Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church, VFW Post 9662 Auxiliary, and OLIH Rosary & Altar Society.
Margaret is survived by her children Janice (Lynn) Edmondson, Karen (John Pittenger) Yori, Mary Yori, Ray (Lee Ann Maldonado) Yori, and Connie Yori; grandchildren Amy Knoll, Casey (Josh) Canaday, Lukas Helms; great-grandchildren Sam Knoll and Jake Knoll; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one sister; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many extended family members.
