She died May 14, 1937, Wilson, Ellsworth County, Kansas.

Mrs. Katharina Friebus.
Mrs. Katharina Elizabeth Friebus nee Schmidt, was born on October 1, 1853, in the village of Fischer, one of the German Colonies along the Volga river in Russia. Soon after she was brought to Holy Baptism, and thereby brought into the blessed communion with the Triune God. This covenant she renewed on the day of her confirmation in the Evangelical Lutheran church at the same place, where she promised to be true and faithful to this faith until her death.
On the eleventh day of February, 1873, she was united in holy matrimony to Frederich Friebus. To this happy union nine children were born: three sons and six daughters, of which one son and two daughters have gone to their resting place before her.
In the year 1877, they left their fatherland and moved to Cape Town, South Africa, from where after a few years, they came to Wilson, Kansas, and made their home in and around Wilson ever since.
Grandma Friebus, the oldest member of her church, was a good, faithful Christian, and never missed her place in church whenever she was able to come. Although it was hard for her to get around the last few years, she would not stay away from Divine Worship; for she loved to come to the house of God.
She leaves to mourn her departure two sons: Johann Christian Friebus, of near Dorrance, and Frederich Friebus, of Wilson; four daughters: Mrs. Charles Whitmer, Mrs. Lew Whitmer, Mrs. Alex Wollert, of Wilson; and Mrs. Charles Garrett, of Oakley; thirty-eight grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was ailing for some time, but only for the last two weeks has she been critically sick. She passed away peacefully on Friday morning, May 14, at 8 o'clock, attaining the age of 83 years, 7 months, and 13 days.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Wilson, on Sunday, May 16, 1937, at 2 P.M., conducted by Rev. W. J. Lind, her pastor for many years.
Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
