Radioman 1st Class Kenneth H Barker was a US Navy veteran of WW2. RM1C Barker was working with a special Navy radio intelligence unit in the Philippines, when the Japanese invaded in late 1941. In spite of the danger, the unit continued its mission for several months. The night of 16 Mar 1942, four officers and 32 enlisted men, including Barker, were evacuated from Corregidor aboard the submarine, USS Permit. The group made its way to Melbourne, Australia, where they continued their mission against the Japanese navy. Barker was promoted to chief, and warrant officer before the end of the war, retiring at the rank of CWO-3.
Whilst in Melbourne, he married Joyce Mary CRUMPTON, who was serving in the WRANS (WR/221). Joyce moved to the USA with Kenneth.
