Pfc. Lloyd W. Leinthall, of the Indiantown Gap substation of the State Police today made an investigation of the circumstances under which Jacob B. Kreiser, 83, of Greenpoint, Jonestown Route 1, was fatally burned while lighting a kitchen fire early last Saturday.
Pfc. Leinthall said that he would recommend to Dr. John J. Light, deputy Lebanon County coroner that the death be recorded as accidental. Kreiser died in Good Samaritan Hospital at 8:50 a.m. Sunday.
The fire occurred in the first floor kitchen of the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Kimmel, who live on the second floor, according to Pfc. Leinthall.
The investigation of disclosed that Kreiser had been blind for the past seven years, Pfc. Leinthall said. He added that he learned that the man’s clothing caught fire from paper and kindling he was using to start the fire. He said that no kerosene, gasoline nor other highly inflammable material was used.
Kreiser was burned about the legs, hips and lower abdomen.
Kreiser is survived by one son, Frank Kreiser, Pine Grove; two stepsons, John Rhen, Greenpoint, and Mark Rhen, Lebanon; one step-daughter, Mrs. Annie Spitler, Lickdale, and three sisters, Mrs. Minnie L, Ney, Lebanon; Mrs. Sadie E. Furman of Greenpoint and Miss. Annie Furman, Green Castle, Pa.
