Mr. Hohnstein was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Portland. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the crew of the USS Pitts. He was the foreman for the Grigsby Brothers Paper Box Co., where he worked for 29 years, retiring in 1984. In 1957, he married Lois Kohler.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Carol Ann Engle of Ashland and Gaye Haney of Portland; brother, Kenny of Portland; sisters, Molly Robertson of Portland and Genevieve Pegg of Albany; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Concluding service and entombment will be in Rose City Cemetery
