Elmer is the son of Henry H Wohlfahrt and Amalia Mollie Hoertsch Wohlfahrt Coleman. He married Helen Catherine Thomas in Cook, Illinois in 1929. They moved to Palo Alto, California in 1939 where Elmer worked in the Veteran's Administration. They were later divorced. He died in Stockton, San Joaquin, California, presumably in the V.A. there, until his death of hypertensive heart disease.
