AMARILLO - (Special) - Emil F. Myers, 71, owner of Myers Music Mart in Borger and Amarillo and Myers Fried Chicken in both cities, died Monday evening at St. Anthony's hospital here. Myers, who served as an impresario for some of the greatest names in the music world, suffered a heart attack at his home Monday morning.
A native of Portsmouth, Ohio, Myers moved with his family to Tribune, Kansas, when he was one year old. Following graduation from Kansas Wesleyan he studied music in Chicago for one year and then moved to Amarillo, founding the Amarillo Music College.
In addition to leading several church choirs in Amarillo and publishing a music periodical, Myers brought such notables as Fritz Kreiser, Mary Garden, Galli-Curel and John Phillip Sousa to perform here.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Eugene Salter, pastor of the Polk Street Methodist Church, officiating.
