Robert E. Methfessel, 77, of 1517 N. 17th St., passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, June 10, 2004, at his home.

Born June 30, 1926, in Sheboygan, Bob was a son of the late Marvin Sr. and Frieda Aschenbach Methfessel. He attended Jefferson Elementary and Central High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Corps from 1943 to 1946, stationed in the Philippines.

On Jan. 15, 1949, he was united in marriage to Frieda Lerch at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church.

Bob worked for Hayssen Co. for 35 years and then as a supervisor at R.C.S. until he retired.

He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where he and Frieda set the Lord's table for Communion every Thursday night and also volunteered in the food pantry. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 9156, where he also served on the board. He was an honorary member of the Special Deputies Association, where he served as president. Bob was the head of ecurity at Road America for many years, was the president of Accents Parent Association, president of the U.A.W. Union for Hayssen Co., and enjoyed the Hayssen Tuesday morning breakfast club.

He loved to watch Wheel of Fortune, play the lottery, work with wood, grow tomatoes, play sheepshead and play softball. He was a fan of all sports. Most of all he enjoyed working with the youth of Sheboygan. He will always be remembered for his jokes, his laughter and his cheerful, humorous greetings and his love for chocolate chip cookies.

He is survived by his wife, Frieda; two children, Terrence of Sheboygan, and Lisa Burns of Sheboygan; one granddaughter, Taylor Burns of Sheboygan; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Methfessel of Sheboygan, and Sophie (E. Robert) Gunther of Sheboygan; one niece, Kathy Koenig of Sun Prairie; five nephews, Mark Gunther, David Methfessel, Michael Methfessel, Jack Methfessel and Brian Methfessel, all of Sheboygan; two aunts, Ruth Reinholz of Sheboygan, and Marcy Methfessel of West Bend; and four cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Scott, and two brothers, Marvin Jr. and Jackie.

Friends and family are welcome at the Lippert-Olson Funeral Home on Sunday, June 13 from 4 to 8 p.m., and again at the CHURCH on Monday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials may be given in his name to St. Mark Lutheran Church and Lutheran High School.
