John T. Zima, 87, died at 4:45 a.m. Friday in his home. Surviving are sons, Larry (Cheryl) Zima of Hammond, IN, and Randolph (Louanne) Zima of South Bend; and grandchildren, James Zima, Timothy Zima, Andrew Zima, and Jacob Zima. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.

According to his birth certificate, he was the son of John Gus Zima and Julia Joo, both born in Hungary. He was born in the Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee. His father worked as a chaffeur and his mother was a homemaker. According to WWII enlistment records, he enlisted as a Private into the Army Air Corps, Philippine Department on 24 July 1940 in Fort Benjamin Harrison, St. Joseph Co., Indiana. At the time, he had had 4 years of high school, was single, and was 66 inches tall, and weighed 150 lbs. Bio by Contributor C. Hoag
