Gladys "Margaret" Jordan, 85, of Ames, died Thursday, Feb. 9, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
Margaret was born May 28, 1920, in Earlham, the daughter of Carl W. and Mabel (Stanley) Cook. She attended schools at Bear Creek Country School, Cambridge, Farrar, and graduated from high school in Shipley in 1937. She married Lawrence Jordan April 24, 1938, in Princeton, Mo. Except for two years at rural Earlham, her entire married life was spent on the farm in the Shipley area until moving to Nevada in September 1990, and then she and Lawrence moved into Nevada. She had worked at Bournes for 14 years, had been a waitress at Spud-Nut in Ames, worked for Huxley Tire and Auto and owned the Jordan Café in Huxley. She had been a 4-H Leader for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Nevada, where she had taught Sunday School and belonged to the UMW. She also was a member of the Airstream Club.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence, of Ames; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce (Jerold) Peterson of Ames and Linda (Larry) Hansen of Dayton; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister: Alma (Leroy) Rotschafer of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Maxine Clarke.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Monday, Feb. 13, at First United Methodist Church in Nevada with the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. today at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory of Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
