Leona (Mikeska) Kahanek, 96, 0f Austin, Texas, formerly of Shiner, Texas passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Focused Cart at Stonebriar in Austin, Texas.
Funeral Services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner, Texas, and will be held on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Joe Machacek officiating. Burial will follow at Shiner City Cemetery.
Leona was born on January 18, 1923 in Shiner, Texas. She was the daughter of John and Lena (Mueller) Mikeska. She married Lawrence Kahanek, Sr. in February of 1948 in Shiner, Texas. She liked being out of doors doing yardwork and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a friend to all stray cats and dogs. She liked to sew and do needlepoint and various arts and crafts. Leona enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. She was a loving wife and mother.
Leona is survived by one son; Lawrence Kahanek, Jr. of Austin, Texas, three sisters; Helen Brunson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ruth Manning of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Virginia Steelman and her husband, Clyde of Ft. Worth, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; John and Lena Mikeska, her husband; Lawrence Kahanek, Sr., two sisters; Estelle Mathis, Karnelia Daughtry, five brothers; Ralph Mikeska, Victor Mikeska, Johnnie Mikeska, Elvin Mikeska, George Mikeska and two infant brothers.
