Antonia was the third of the five known Wolter children, all born in Emden, to immigrate to the US. Her siblings are: Anna (Max) Buchwald (25 Dec 1883-8 Nov 1969, #165344511), Wilhelm F Wolter (8 June 1885- 1961, #146240070, wife Peterkd), Johan Friedrich “Fritz” Wolter (14 Apr 1900- 5 Sept 1961 Chicago, wife Hertha), John Wolter (21 April 1902- June 1981 Chicago).
She was married in Germany prior to immigrating to an unknown Helpap, with whom she had two children: Carla & Richard. The fate of her first husband is unknown but the three, who at the time had been residing in Ruestringen, crossed over to the US in 1923. They sailed from Bremen aboard the Seydlitz and arrived at Ellis Island on December 17th with plans to continue on to St Charles, IL.
Two weeks after arriving Antonia married Henry Probst on December 31st, 1923 in Geneva, IL. Henry, a fellow German immigrant, was born in Heppens- not far from Antonia’s birthplace of Emden- and was somehow related. The couple lived in Geneva for a few years before settling in St Charles, IL and had four children together. Antonia’s children from her first marriage took the name Probst but it’s unclear if they were formally adopted.
