Bruce Edmon Bradford, 60, of Jacksonville passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Community Hospice and Palliative Care in Jacksonville following an extended illness.

Bruce was born in Coral Gables, Florida in 1958 and moved to Jacksonville in 1963. His family left Newfoundland Canada when his father Jesse was given orders to USCG Atlantic Area Station Mayport. He was a 1977 graduate of Duncan U. Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach and served honorably in the United States Army where he graduated from boot camp at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and served as a member of the Military Police presence at the Berlin Wall and was shot while in the line of duty. After fully recovering from his wounds, he was honorably discharged and began pursuing a dual career path that went between the wish to become a firefighter and a police officer. In 1980 he volunteered with the Neptune Beach fire department and then made the decision to go into law enforcement full time. In 1982 he graduated from the St Augustine Technical College Police Academy and began his career in law enforcement with the Crescent City Police Department.

He became a resident of Putnam County from 1986 until 2003, living in Crescent City and later in Palatka, before returning to Jacksonville to live full time. He was later employed as a federal officer with Department of Defense at NAS Jacksonville where he worked for 18 years. Mr. Bradford received numerous accolades, including having provided personal security for then President of the United States, George W. Bush in 2003 when the President toured NAS Jacksonville after 9/11 to observe changes for base security. He first became ill and was medically retired in 2012 from the career he so loved. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5-30 and was of the Baptist faith. He loved the Lord. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, camping, continuing to help in the community any way he could and was an avid Star Trek fan. He considered his greatest joy and blessing to be a father and grandfather and always said he had the best of both worlds.

Preceding him in death were his father, Jesse Bradford; his mother and step-father, Estelle Bradford Dickey and Robert Dickey; wife, Suzy Judd-Bradford, a brother, Brett Bradford, Sister in law, Anne Bradford and a nephew Jesse R. Bradford.
