Lois Catharine Krekow was born on April 5, 1926 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Emma (Peters) Kroeger. She was Baptized and Confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus, Iowa. She graduated from Remsen High School and later attended Westmar College in Le Mars where she received a degree in Education. Following college, Lois accepted a position as a Junior High School Principal at Sutherland, Iowa.
On September 3, 1950, Lois and Charles Scott Krekow were united in marriage at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen, Iowa. Together they farmed south of Marcus. Lois also worked at Farmers State Bank in Marcus and retired as an assistant vice president after 23 years.
Lois began as a church organist in August of 1947. She played for numerous church services, wedding and funerals. Along with playing, she taught Sunday School and was a Choir Director. She served on the Marcus Public Library Board for many years and was a 40 year member of the Tourist Club. Lois also assisted with the origination of the Arts and Crafts department at the Marcus Fair. Her interests included music, reading, bird watching, flower gardening and her beloved West Highland White Terriers.
Grateful to have shared her life is her daughter, Kay Krekow and her husband, Dr. Harry Dunstan of Derwood, Maryland; a step grandson, Nick Dunstan of Washington, DC; several cousins; and a good friend and special great nephew, Kory Kroeger of Remsen, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Krekow on September 4, 2015, a daughter, Deborah Krekow-Nelson; and a brother, Elmer Kroeger.
