William Frank Soltow was born William David LABARRE to David Anthony LaBarre and Fannie Mortensen. William had 3 older sisters: Marcella, Vivian and LaVera. David abandoned Fannie and their 4 children resulting in the children being taken and the youngest 3 adopted (LaVera and William adopted by Soltow's & Vivian adopted by the Miller's.
William's mother, Fannie, later married Harry and they had 4 children: Charles, Lyle, Florence & Betty Bronson.
Williams's father, David, later married and had more children: Aloma, Lanny, Curt and Vicki (born Patricia).
William enlisted in the Army and transferred to Texas. William met and married Bennie Carothers in Ft Hood, Texas on 10/9/1942; they had 6 children: Billy, Ronnie, Sherry, Pamela, Claude Dan and Johnny Jan. His son, Ronnie, preceded him in death in 1958 due to leukemia.
William suffered a lot of trauma in his life; childhood, experiences in the military and the death of his son resulting in poor coping skills such alcoholism and violence. William abandoned his family in 1959-1960; they never saw him again. William stayed with a few different relatives such as his sisters and mother. William lived his final years with his sisters, Betty & Florence.
William never remarried nor had more children. William was my grandfather; I personally believe William leaving his family was his way of saving them evidenced by his future decisions and statements made by Florence & Betty.
