Garry was born to his parents Marvin & Gertrude (Schenk) Jahn in Marshall, Minnesota. The 3rd child of 4. He joined the navy in 1965 and served for 20 years till 1985 when he was Honorable Discharged. His finial rank was Chief Legalman. During his service he served in the following commands: Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois; USS Lyman K. Swenson (DD 729); Naval Disciplinary Command, Portsmouth, New Hampshire; 30th Naval Construction Regiment, Okinawa, Japan; Naval Legal Service Office, Great Lakes, Illinois; USS John F Kennedy (CV 67); Staff, Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet; & Naval Legal Service Office, Norfolk, Virginia. In addition he attended two Navy Schools: YN "A" School and the Naval Justice School. He was awarded. 4 awards of the Good Conduct Medal; Navy Achievement Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation (3 awards); Battle Effeciency Ribbon (2 awards); National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars; Sea Service Ribbon; Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation; Vietnam Campaign Medal with device; Navy Rifle Marksmanship Medal (Sharpshooter); & Navy Pistol Marksmanship Medal (Sharpshooter). He was married to Linda Ruth Stark in 1967 and divorced in 1970. To this union a son Jeff and a daughter Jodie was born. In 1970 he married Patricia Jean Varney. She had 2 girls from a previous marriage; Deborah & Melanie, who he adopted. They where divorced in 1994. In 1997 he married Debra P Taylor. They divorced in 2007. He raised Debra son Stephen, continuing to do so even after the divorce. After his navy service he served as a Deputy Sheriff for 3 yrs, Magistrate for 5 years, and at Western Tidewater jail for 7 yrs. Overall he served 20 years in the Navy & 25 years in Law Enforcement Service. He was buried with full navy honors.
