Ruth became the First Lady of Beverly Hills when David was appointed Mayor of the city in 1952. David would serve a second term in 1956. After her husband's death, Ruth sold their home in Beverly Hills and moved into a high class apartment in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles in February 1958. It was there were Ruth was discovered dead in her bathtub on the morning of April 5. While drawing a bath for herself, Ruth fell accidentally into the tub full of scalding hot water. She was 55.
