Solomon Noll was born June 3, 1849, in Lycoming County, Pa., and lived to the age of 80 years. He passed away Sept. 8, 1929, and burial is in the Ida Grove Cemetery, Ida Grove, Iowa.

In 1854, he moved to Cedar County, Iowa, in a covered wagon requiring 28 days coming from Pennsylania.

The passage of the Mississippi River was negotiated at Lyons, with a tread power boat. Although only 5 years old, Mr. Noll always remembered this journey. Mr. Noll was the youngest of a family of 12 children, whose parents were Christian and Barbara Noll.

His last surviving sister, Diana, passed away in April 5, 1927, at the age of 87 years. The father died in Cedar County at the age of 85 and the mother expired in Ida Grove in 1895 at the age of 92 years.

He was married in February 1884 at Inland, Cedar County, to Mary E. Dickinson, the ceremony being performed at the home of an uncle named Templeton.

Five children were born to this union, one little girl, Hazel, dying in infancy. The surviving children are Mabel Jordan of Eugene, Oregon; James C. Noll of Blaine Township; Roy Noll of Minneapolis, and Bert Noll, also of Blaine Township. There were 12 grandchildren.

The family came to Ida Grove in 1891 and for a number of years, Mr. Noll farmed in Blaine Township where he amassed a real estate holding of 800 acres. About 15 years ago, they built their present home in Ida Grove where Mr. Noll resided until the time of his death.

Mr. Noll was interested in several local organizations, having been a director of the First Truast & Savings Bank, president of the Arthur Lumber and Coal Co., treasurer and director of the Ida Co. Mutual Fire Insurance Association, and director of the Ida County Telephone Co.
