Erwin Ludwig Bühler, b. 16 Oct. 1907, Tiefenbronn, Germany, d. 26 December, 1990, City of Karlsruhe, Germany. Vice-President of Baden-Württemberg's State Supreme Court (Oberlandesgericht) in Karlsruhe. Was a beloved husband to Magdalena Pfeffer, brother to Hilde Bühler, and father to Rolf Dieter Bühler and Christa Magda von Maltzahn, and grandfather to Hans Victor IV and Kai Wolfram von Maltzahn.

"Highest Honour for Baden's Justice Man," a news article from the Karlsruhe Zeitung (newspaper), Nov. 1972.

"OLG [Oberlandesgericht] - Vice President Bühler receives the Great Merit Cross

"Thus, on a Wednesday evening, Baden-Württemberg's Justice Minister, Dr. Traugott Bender, allotted one of the highest honours one can get on a Baden justice man: At the end of November, in the year he is to retire, Vice President of the High District Court [Oberlandesgerichts, OLG] in Karlsruhe, Erwin L. Bühler receives the Great Federal Merit Cross. Dr. Bender congratulated him in the name of the district government, and made it known that this distinction was an acknowledgement of his worthy desire to not only be helpful to his fellow lawyers, but also to 'newbie' co-workers as well.

"The Justice Minister, Dr. Bender, made a short presentation of the Merit, and then called on Dr. Bühler, who, after a comprehensive, worthy, and cautious career of almost 40 years with the Justice Department, had something prepared on this occasion of his discharge. Although, Dr. Bender mentioned that Bühler will still carry on, on a part-time basis, because of his vast knowledge within his profession. This special merit recognizes his cumulative career which included a stint as manager of the High District Court in Karlsruhe. His meritorious work now continues both inside and outside the Ministry of Justice, since the Vice President Bühler will spend much of his year teaching case-studies at law school, and is recognized for his work writing a well-received business report.

"Former OLG Vice President Bühler took his Assessor's examinations in Legal Administration in 1934, and then next steps with the office of the National Relief Service, and with several Notaries. In 1937, he became a Counsel for the Justice Administration, and a Notary in Eppingen, while in 1945 he worked for the office of the Judicial Counsel in Mosbach, and in 1950, was Karlsruhe's first Public Prosecutor. In 1954, Erwin Bühler became Chief Public Prosecutor of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the High District Court [OLG] in Karlsruhe. In 1963, he finally became the Senate President, and the OLG Vice President in 1969."
