MRS. AHRENS PASSES; BURIED AT ST. PAUL’S
Mrs. Anna Ahrens, mother of Herman Ahrens and Mrs. Herman Luecking of this community, passed away last Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman Martens at Wayne. The remains were brought here for burial from St. Paul’s Lutheran church, services being held Monday afternoon. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
Anna Lindemann was born at Killinghausen, Germany, on October 30, 1854, and at the time of her death was 74 years, 10 months and 27 days of age. She was united in marriage to Henry Ludolph Ahrens on March 4, 1875. To this union were born thirteen children, three of whom preceded the mother in death.
Most of the married life of Mr. and Mrs. Ahrens was spent in Germany at Ottensen near Hamburg. As their children grew to maturity, all but two of them emigrated to the United States to make their homes. In 1912, the parents followed, but Mr. Ahrens finding it difficult to follow his trade as a turner, he became dissatisfied with the conditions here and in 1914 returned to the fatherland, with plans to have Mrs. Ahrens follow later.
Shortly after landing in Germany, the European war broke out which made conditions such that Mrs. Ahrens was unable to join her husband at the old home, neither was he able to return to this country. He died there in 1916.
The deceased is survived by the following children: Mrs. Louise Luecking and Herman Ahrens of Scribner, Johannes of West Point, Frieda of Hooper, Henry of Norfolk, Emma of New York, Adolph of Verdel, Mrs. Herman Martens of Wayne, Franz and Helena of Germany; 36 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
