Patrick Leon Poehl Patrick Leon Poehl, age 63 passed away and ascended into Heaven on January 6, 2011 while walking his dogs at Town Lake. Pat was born in Freeport, TX on January 5, 1948, and spent his entire childhood in Lake Jackson, TX. He was a 1966 graduate of Brazosport High School before heading to San Marcos, Tx where he met his former wife Marie Moore Poehl. Both of them graduated from Southwest Texas State in 1971 when they moved to Austin, TX where Pat lived for the past 40 years. Jennifer Poehl, their daughter was born on January 22, 1973. Jennifer remained the focal point of his life, and they both shared a love for dogs. Pat was a founding father of Delta Tau Delta fraternity at Southwest Texas State, and he remained friends with many of the Delts through the years. Last summer's reunion at Gruene, TX of the "Old Delts" was a fun time to spend with some life-long friends. Pat initially worked for the State of Texas at the Water Quality Board, but spent most of his adult life following his dreams. His stint in the U S Army Reserves as a cook fueled his passion for the food industry, and he was partners in numerous food companies, including Earl Campbell Foods. Pat had many business interests during his career ranging from development of oil wells to his current role as Vice President of Anytime Foods. Gerald Klossner, his business partner, and Pat followed their dreams in the business world. Pat was an avid golfer, and attended many spectator sports especially Longhorn events with his brother Michael Poehl. He and his business partner James Duncan had many golf matches with their friends, some of them quite legendary. Although there was very spirited competition it was the after golf time that made it a special event. If you knew Pat Poehl, you loved him. Pat was a generous person who would give you his last nickel. It was not unusual for Pat to pick up a tab for a total stranger, and their family in a restaurant if he saw them celebrating a special occasion, and they never knew who did it. He lived his life as a giver, as an example of what it meant to give something to those who need it. Pat had a very strong faith, and it had grown stronger over the last five years due to his daily prayers and novenas. He never missed a mass at St. Catherine of Siena. Others will lead a more productive life due to his donation of his skin tissue, bones, ligaments, and some will have the blessed opportunity to see life through the use of his corneas. Pat's parents - T.L. and Helen Poehl from Lake Jackson, TX preceded him in death. In addition to his former wife Marie Poehl and his loving daughter Jennifer Poehl, Pat is also is survived by his brother Michael Poehl, and wife Kathy, along with their sons Nicholas and Christopher. Also, by his brother Phillip Poehl of Austin, TX and wife Lynn Poehl of Nashville, TX and his brother Stephen Poehl of New Braunfels, TX. and his sons Jacob, Matthew, and Jared, as well as Pat's constant companion who completed his life Ms. Terri Irwin of Lakeway, TX. "Sammie dog the travelin' man", is waiting for Pat at the Rainbow Bridge, along with Champ and the other wonderful dogs he enjoyed during his life. Donations in honor of Pat should be made to Town Lake Animal Center. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation and reception with the family from six o'clock in the evening until half past seven in the evening on Sunday, the 9th of January, in the Colonial Chapel Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd; the recitation of the rosary will follow.
