Barbara Nordhus, 93, of Marysville, KS, died December 24, 2019 at Country Place Senior Living in Marysville.

Visitation was Friday, December 27, from noon to 5 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary.

A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Friday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville.

A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 28 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. The musicians were Dolores Bruna, Chris Headley and Gabe Headley. Music included “Be Not Afraid”, “Ave Maria”, “The Lord is My Shepherd”, “Prayer of St. Francis” and “On Eagles Wings”.

The pallbearers were Mick Pache, Bob Watts, Bob Pache, Laura Felty, Tina Davis and David Schwarz.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Barbara was born September 26, 1926 in Marysville to Dominic and Laura (Schwindamann) Schmitz. In 1944, she graduated from Marysville High School.

On May 10, 1948, she married Norbert Nordhus. They were parents of two sons and one daughter. In 1948, Barbara and Norbert started Nordhus Motor Company in Marysville.

She enjoyed camping, boating, traveling, golfing and sporting events especially the Marysville Bulldogs, Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Royals. She was an avid card player and enjoyed casino trips.

Barbara was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Vere, Dominic, William, John and Archie Schmitz; and sisters, Bernice Pache, Anna Ring and Isla Schwarz.

Survivors include her children, Dick (Pam) Nordhus, Marysville, Kay Nordhus (Frank Meier), Overland Park, KS, and Steve (Jo) Nordhus, Salina, KS; grandsons, Brian Nordhus and Chris Headley; granddaughter, Chana Nord; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Memorial funds have been designated to St. Gregory's Catholic Church or School or Meadowlark Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
