Horst R. Krause, 87, of Watertown, passed away at Watertown Regional Medical Center in Watertown, unexpectedly following a short illness, surrounded by his family on June 8, 2018.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Hafemeister Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Aust officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials, if desired, would be appreciated to the charity of one’s choice. Horst Rudy Krause was born on September 25, 1930 in Kolburg, Germany, the son of William and Martha (nee Albrecht) Krause. He immigrated to the United States with his mother and two sisters, Sabina and Ruth, in 1937. He attended Elm Grove High School on West Road. Horst served in the United States Navy in 1957 at the end of the Korean War. On November 23, 1958 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Miller in Arpin, Wisconsin. He farmed in the area until he bought out Reinhold Schmidt’s farm in 1967. He worked for Peterson’s Grain Feed Mill prior to working for Jim Rudolph’s excavating company which he purchased in the early 1960s. He then started his own business with his brother Daniel in 1965, H&D Krause Land Improvement, retiring in 2002.
Horst is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Krause of Watertown; children, David (Gail) Krause of Berrien Springs, MI, Daniel Krause of Watertown and Randy (Lori) Krause of Watertown; grandchildren, Kurt, Kirsten Karl, Kade, Riley and Hope Krause; sisters, Sabina Ersel and Esther Harting, both of Watertown; sisters-in-law, Blondina Krause of Juneau, Loralee Miller of Oshkosh, Patricia (Dennis) Grudinske of Port Edwards and Karen Miller of Oshkosh; brothers-in-law, Pepe Indelecio of Madison, Charles (Penny) Miller of Asuncion, Paraguay, Gordon (Mary) Miller of Rockford, Illinois and Ernest Miller of Oshkosh as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Daniel, Werner and Irvin (Carol) Krause and sisters, Ruth (Karl) Raue and Marjorie Indelecio.
