Melvin J. Pohlmann, 79, of Hermann, MO, passed away Monday, December 30, 2019 at his home.

Melvin was born in Bay, Missouri on May 6, 1940, a son of the late Chris & Adela (Kopp) Pohlmann.

He was the husband of Edna Mae (Haeffner) Pohlmann. They were united in marriage on June 10, 1961, at St. Paul's Church, Bay, MO.

Melvin was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Stolpe, where he also served on the church board. He was also a member of the Carpenters Union.

Melvin was a commercial carpenter in St. Louis for Allied Builders for 29 years. He later went to work for his son-in-law with Grotewiel Construction for 19 years. He helped build many houses in the Swiss area for no charge.

In his free time Melvin enjoyed going hunting, especially for deer and squirrels. He also loved farming and tending to his cows.

Melvin is survived by his wife Edna Mae, of the home; a daughter, Brenda Grotewiel & husband Mike, of Rhineland, Missouri; a son, Kevin Pohlmann & wife Theresa, of Swiss, Missouri; by five sisters, Darlene D'Angelo, of Hazelwood, Missouri; Evelyn Plegge & husband Eugene, of Linn, Missouri; Marilyn Hofstetter & husband Dale, of Jefferson City, Missouri; Janet McHale & husband John, of Brideton, Missouri; and Mary Ann Warmann & husband Roland, of Jefferson City, Missouri. by three brothers, Kenneth Pohlmann, of Hazelwood, Missouri; James Pohlmann, of Bay, Missouri; and Larry Pohlmann & wife Lisa, of Lampasas, Texas; by 13 grandchildren, Lauren Salzman, Evan Grotewiel, Michael Pohlmann, Micaela Plumb, Angela Frank, Gregory & William Pohlmann, Anne Howdeshell, and Sarah, Joseph, Maria, Andrew, and Mara Pohlmann, by 10 great grandchildren, Everett, Adaline, and Collette Pohlmann, Ryder, Sonny, & Johanna Salzman, Hunter, Levi, & Jeremiah Plumb, and Brooks Frank, and by many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Kermit, Kleo, and Darwin Pohlmann.

Visitation will be held Wednesday 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Darrel Deeker officiating.

Burial will be at St. Paul's Cemetery, Bay, Missouri. Memorials may be given to the cemetery. C/O Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
