Lara Lynn Gentry debuted in the world on March 14, 1967, in Norman, the daughter of Dr. George and Marian C. Hulsey. She began another leg on her fantastic journey on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at home with loved ones.

She shared her life and love with her daughter Birdie Gentry, her mother Marian Hulsey, her God-Mother Kris Marek, her brothers Brett of Wisconsin, and Bryce (Lisa) of Yukon, two nephews Graeme and Tyler, one niece Lea, one great-niece Owen, and her former husband and Birdie's Daddy-O, Steven Gentry of Denton, TX.

Lara grew up in Norman and maintained many friendships from those years. She moved to OKC and finished school at Cleveland Innovative High School, making more truly special friendships. She worked at Abraham's Grill and at Aerial Oklahoma.

The loved ones she shared her friendship with Bill W are too numerous to list here but you know who you are and how much she loved you and believed in you. She especially helped young people trying to find a path to sobriety.

She discovered her artistic flair while attending Cleveland, but it blossomed when she started baking brownies and cookies for groups, from fundraising for the Dance Dept at Classen SAS, to providing cookies at her Monday noon and Friday night groups. But she really began her life as a Master Baker when she started furnishing 8-10 sheet cakes, decorated according to the season of course, for the City-Wide monthly meetings. She also made awesome Mac'N'Cheese for friends and family. Certainly we family members loved the cooking and baking she did for us, keeping us well-fed and healthy.

In all those days and weeks she spent in OUMED, she developed new friendships among the nurses and other medical personnel, including her wonderful case workers on floors 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, who helped us all. We are so grateful for the professional but also wonderfully kind and loving care they gave her.

There are no superlatives enough to express our gratitude to Frontier Hospice, especially Nurse Craig, who answered our all hours calls, and to their ComfortCare people who filled and delivered medications at any hour of the day or night. They all made it possible for us to take care of her at home, which is what she wanted.

Lara's Memorial was held on Sunday, December 8, at her beloved Western Club. The family is asking that anyone wishing to donate in her memory, go to http://www.westernclub.org/, then click on Financial Support for the ways you can give to this fund.
