Funeral services for Robert L. Nitsch Sr., 74, Scranton, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Military graveside services will be conducted by Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence.
Mr. Nitsch died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Topeka.
He was born Jan. 21, 1924, in Lincoln County, the son of Otto W. and Lillie Hickey Nitsch. He moved to Lawrence in 1953 and lived here until moving to Scranton three years ago. He was a self-employed carpenter.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy.
He was a member of the Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lawrence.
He married Mabel "Billie" Praytor Lang in 1953. She died in 1984. He then married Dorothy M. Haigh on May 5, 1997, in Miami, Okla. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Deborah Nitsch, Lawrence, and Sue Marshall, Junction City; a son, Robert, Yates Center; nine stepchildren, including Cheryl A. Favreau, Russ Lang and James Christopher Lang, all of Lawrence; four sisters, Bernice Williams, Helen Cross and Lil Peck, all of Lawrence, and Mary Thomas, Junction City; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home before the services.
The family suggests memorials to the Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 VFW of Lawrence and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
