Mary Melvina Blevins, daughter of Andrew and Rebecca Blevins, was born October 7, 1854, in Bates County, Missouri, and departed this life December 27, 1936, at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 20 days. She came to Kansas with her parents in a covered wagon in 1863, settling in Jefferson County, February 9, 1876. She was united in marriage to James Martin who preceded her in death September 28, 1927. To this union were born nine children, three daughters and six sons, all of whom survive her. The are Etta Fisher of Eureka, Everett of Mayetta, Clarence of Hoyt, Jess of Meriden, Nellie Robinson of Mayetta, Thomas of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska, Wade of Tacoma, Washington, Claude of Topeka, Lenora Singer of Topeka, and two brothers, Charles Blevins of Topeka, and Floyd Blevins of Wyoming, twenty-seven grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends. She was a member of the North Topeka Baptist church. The Holton Recorder, January 7, 1937.
