Lickfelt - Bietz
Verna Lickfelt and Nathan Bietz were united in marriage. Monday morning by Judge Ervin Haerter, in his office in Ipswich. Witnesses were the brother of the groom, Reinhold Bietz of Berein Springs, Michigan, and his stepfather, Mr. Fred Binder.
The bride, who is the daughter of Mrs. Martha Lickfelt of this city, wore a navy blue street dress with white accessories. The groom wore a navy blue pin strip suit.
Mr. and Mrs. Bietz will make their home in Bowdle, where he is engaged in the chicken raising business.
Monday evening, the groom's sister, Mrs. Ben Krueger, was hostess to two hundred guests, at a shower and reception in their honor. Community singing, games and social converation occupied the evening. Ice cream and cake were served at a late hour. Mr. and Mrs. Bietz were presented with many gifts, which they will find useful in their new home.
Out of town relatives attended the reception were Mr. Reinhold Bietz of Berrien Springs, Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Walker of Lincoln, Nebraska and Mrs. Hohansee of Aberdeen.
Their many friends join the Pioneer in wishing them Suess and happiness in their wedded life.

Verna Alice Bauman, 94, Java, SD, died Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the Bowdle Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Java, led by Pastor Mary Lou Gruebele. Interment follows at the Church Cemetery. Organist will be Carol Fiedler and usher will be Carlyle Bieber. Congregational hymns will be Verna’s favorites “Jesus, Still Lead On” , “I Love To Tell the Story”, and “How Great Thou Art”.
Memorials are preferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church, PO Box 248, Java, SD 57452.
Funeral home visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 PM Monday.
Verna Alice Lickfelt, daughter of Martha (Schuft) and Fred Lickfelt, was born near Bowdle in Edmunds County on July 10, 1925. She attended country school. Verna kept busy helping her mother with child care and housework. Verna married Martin Fred Bauman at Selby, SD on October 22, 1955. They made their home on the Bauman homestead 4 ½ miles east of Java. In March 1993, they moved into Java. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran church and the ladie’s group. She also was a member of Germans from Russia. Verna loved cooking and baking and would often give the finished product to family and friends
Verna is survived by her son Fred Martin (Leanna) Bauman of Rapid City, SD; one granddaughter, Jennifer Bauman of Sioux Falls, SD and one grandson, Jason Bauman of Rapid City; two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. Verna is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, on December 27, 1996; her parents; six brothers; and one sister.
Casketbearers will be David Pfitzer of Aberdeen, SD; David Baumann, Don Sauer, and Dwight Baumann of Mobridge, SD; and Verna’s grandchildren-Jennifer and Jason.
