Carl Lamont Roemer was actually born William Henry Staats to Joseph and Josephine Staats and was placed in an orphanage before age one. He spent much of his time as a young child being fostered by the Max Robert Roemer family, but was adopted sometime as a child by Harley and Sarah Brick. He graduated from high school with the last name Brick but legally changed is name to Roemer in 1932 when he was 21 years old. He was married three times. His first and second marriage was to Ethel Mae Wood. They had one child: Jerome LeRoy. After divorcing and remarrying and again divorcing Ethel Mae, he then married Nela (Auvil) and they had one child: Lou Ann. Nela also had two sons from a previous marriage: Carl Louis and James Dale Ingalls
