Esther Juanita (Hoss) Blair was born Nov. 2, 1908, on a farm near Merrill, Iowa. Her parents are Emil Hoss and Mabel (Hammond) Hoss. In 1918, they moved to a farm near Ordway, S.D., where she attended school.
On Feb. 27, 1928, she married Eldon Blair in Redfield, S.D. They lived on several farms in the area. While living in Aberdeen, she worked at Taylor Laundry, as a pastry chef at the Ward Hotel, and at the Virginia Cafe. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen, where she taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Moose and held several offices. She enjoyed her friends, dancing, gardening and cooking and baking for family and friends. In May 1983, she moved to Sioux Falls to be closer to her son and daughter and their families. In Sioux Falls, she was a member of the Sunnycrest United Methodist Church. She was a member of Martha Circle and the Golden Glow.
Thankful for sharing her love are sons Robert of Lennox, Donald (Edith) of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; daughter Carol (Ron) Hiepler of Sioux Falls; sisters Marcella Smith of Vancouver, Wash., and Doris Huettl of Aberdeen; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Eldon in 1978 after 50 years of marriage, two sisters, two brothers and one grandson.
Pallbearers are her nephews Richard Sievert, Bob Barton, Bob Reiner, Wayne Noess, Dave Voeltz and John Huettl.
A memorial service will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Sioux Falls Sunday, Feb. 18 and at First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen Monday, Feb. 19. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.
