Lawrence “Larry” Wayne Shute was born in Cleveland, Ohio. His birthday often fell on Thanksgiving Day. His mother was Bernice Schafer and his father was Herman Shute, a MacGregor Golf Club Maker from England. His brother was the late Densmore “Denny” Shute who was a highly know PGA Golfer winning several PGA championships in the 1920s and 1930s, as well as winning the British Open in 1933. The only PGA Golfer to ever beat his brother Denny Shute’s PGA record winnings has been Tiger Woods. Due to those influences, Larry began playing golf as a toddler. As a result, Mr. Shute went on to become a Master PGA Golf Professional for over 50 years, as well as owning his own golf course, Bluffton Golf Club Inc., in Bluffton, Ohio from 1971-1989. Many golfers have gone on to play on professional levels due to his coaching and mentorship.

Larry was a U.S. Veteran serving in the National Guard Air Force for two years during the Korean War era.

Mr. Shute leaves behind his son Christopher Bryant Shute and wife Rhonda Kelly Shute; daughter Debra Jean Shute; son David Boyce Shute and his fiancé, Julie Dianne Callahan. Granddaughters: Kimberly Astra Finke and husband James Edward Finke, Sarah Elizabeth Hicks, Gabrielle Abbatiello with significant other Benjamin Wesley Freeman, Prairie Elam, Bethany Quinn Spell and husband Tyler Spell, Jessica Senter and husband Joshua, and Angela Shute. Grandsons: Matthew Paul Hicks and wife Carrie Jessup Hicks; James Lawrence Shute with significant other Hope Katherine Davis, Johnny Shute, and Jensen Shute. Great granddaughters: Madison Grace Finke, Julia Elizabeth Newman, Savanna Paige Elam, Penelope Corinne Cliff, Josephine Elizabeth Hicks, and Jaden Senter.
Great grandsons: Daniel Jordan Weron, Jace Lucas Newman, Nathaniel Dale Bishop and wife Madi Newman Bishop, Donald Ray Elam and wife Emma Casey Elam, Jeremiah James Elam and Wyatt Paul Hicks and Great-great granddaughter Nova Rae Elam.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Robinson Shute and eldest son Larry Wayne Shute.

Larry was a strong believer in Christ. He served his home churches in Ohio and Tennessee with great devotion. On November 10th, 2019, Larry rededicated his life to his Lord Jesus at The Island Church, Orange Beach, Alabama.

Mr. Shute’s wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered at his wife Nancy’s gravesite in Crossville, Tennessee, as well as his former golf course in Bluffton, Ohio. No live memorial services will be provided.
