JEANERETTE - Memorial services will be conducted for John Philip Kipp Sr., 71, Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. Jody Simoneaux officiating. Inurnment will follow in Beau Pre Memorial Park Cemetery. A Gathering of family and friends will be held at David Funeral Home-Jeanerette on Monday, July 18, 2011, beginning at 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Gathering will resume Tuesday July 19, 2011, from 9 a.m. until service time.

John Philip Kipp Sr. was a longtime resident of Jeanerette. He died Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 2:54 p.m. at his residence surrounded by his family. John was born June 16, 1940, in Piqua, Kansas, and graduated from Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Kansas. John enlisted in the Navy on January 24, 1959, and completed his service on January 20, 1964. John received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He began his career in the oil field industry, and then became interested in boat building. John worked for Gulf Craft Inc. in Patterson for 23 1/2 years, then as a port captain for Freeport Crew boats until retirement.

"Paw Paw" loved camping and fishing with family and friends, as well as hunting pheasant and quail with his children and friends in Kansas. He also loved to coach and watch baseball and softball.

John is survived by wife, Hilda Leger Kipp, of Jeanerette; children John Kipp Jr., Robin Kipp Shea and her husband, Mike, of Lafayette; Kelly Kipp Fitch and her husband, Ryan, of Baldwin, Lance Kipp, Rachel Kipp Trimble and her husband, Adam, of Jeanerette; and sisters Beverly Kipp and Chris King of Lawrence, Kansas; his grandchildren Jonathon Pio Corpuz of Orlando, Fla., Austin Kipp, Lanie McCoy and Walter Kipp and their mother, Nora, Krystine Albert, Haley Kipp and her mother, Jill, Cy Kipp and his mother, Michelle, of New Iberia, Lauren Shea and Will Hudson of Broussard, Stephanie Shea and Tyler Shea of Lafayette, Kyle Kipp and his mother, Donna, of Maurice, Skyler and Alexandra Fitch of Baldwin; and his great-grandchildren Shea Clark and Molly Hudson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Creole.

He was preceded in death by son Henry Lawrence Kipp; infant daughter Dierdra Kipp; his parents, John Alfred Kipp and Marjorie Ruth Kipp; his stepmother, Evelyn Ried Kipp; stepbrother Don Ried; and stepsister Phyllis Gurss.

His family would like to extend their thanks to all who participated in his care, including but not limited to Dr. Barrow Bourgeois and staff of Jeanerette, AAA Hospice Staff, Dr. Aslam of Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans.
