“Therefore you must also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matthew 24:44)

Mrs.Patricia Ann Dennis was ready and her hour was at 1:10pm, Saturday, May 30, 2020 where, surrounded by her family, our Lord & Savior made good His Heavenly promise and came down to take another angel Home. Thus marked the end of a beautiful life on this Earth, but began her everlasting one in Heaven. She was 85.

Patricia was born on July 6, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Fred Stewart and his wife Gladys Stewart, who was a relentlessly hard-working home-maker that prioritized God & family over all. Times were rough, but what Gladys lacked in stature she more than made up for in her resilience. She was an optimist, always pulling through and raising Patricia to be a faithful, Christian woman of integrity. Patricia was the second-oldest of the Stewart children and she successfully continued Grandma Gladys’ legacy of generational blessings, for they were the very foundations for many families to come.

On June 1st, 1956, as Heavens bells rang out, Patricia wed Paul Louis Dennis and they became man & wife. That day she married a loose-lipped, construction working, Army vet with a tough exterior but a heart of pure gold. Now, if you had a CB radio back in the 50’s you might’ve known them by their handles “Big Paul & Snooks”. These two were inseparable, and oh, Paul would spoil her rotten if she’d have let him. He was her Diamond in the rough, her Knight in shining armor. Although she’d often say of him “he’d rather tease & torment than eat when he was hungry”, together the two would create a lineage of love & devotion like none-other.

Like her mother, Patricia’s learned integrity kept her consistent. She raised her family as a constant witness to God’s never ending love and was a living example of not only what it means to be a Christian, but also what it means to be moral and decent, to be honest, to treat others with love and respect- even when they didn’t deserve it. She always stood up for what was right, as she was drawn towards the underprivileged & mistreated, regardless of the odds or culture. She could diffuse situations with her love, her wisdom, her faith and if needed...her broom. She was a daily advocate for God’s love, even up to her final days would she proclaim through labored breaths “but even my love...is just a drop in a bucket...compared to the unFATHOMable love...that God has for each of you.” And then she would kiss us, the best kisses one could ever receive, purposeful kisses, kisses of love, of hope that one day she will again kiss all her family one-by-one but in Heaven. And she wasn’t ever too shy to say “kiss me like you mean it”. Following that kiss would be a big, big hug with grunts so she knew you felt it. Then there were the “love tweeks”. Throughout our lives she was a guiding light; whenever tempted with bad decisions she could bring you back, lovingly, tenderly and with your best interests in mind. She would never, ever give up on you, even when you felt life had thrown you down she was always there to pick you back up and cheer you on.

In the time God has blessed us with her, Patricia stayed busy. She had a handful of jobs in her youth. Mainly secretary & factory work but she really excelled as a home-maker, like her mother. She was always involved with church functions like writing plays, making puppets, playing the piano & singing, teaching Sunday School and being an enthusiastic volunteer for Vacation Bible School. She travelled the country adding her sweet voice to the barbershop choir Heart of Indiana along with her sister & grand-daughters. She bowled. You could count on Grandma Patty & Grandpa Paul to show up at your little league games, graduations, birthdays & special events with big smiles and words of encouragement.

Patricia is survived in life by her 3 sisters: Elizabeth “Tootey” (Richards) Chambers, Debbie Higgs (and her husband Steve) & Delores Pijut, as well as her 3 brothers: David Stewart (and his wife Inez), Jerry Stewart (and his wife Sherry) and Tommy Stewart (and his partner Bill Lloyd).

If her “dear” Paul would’ve only had his way, poor Patty might’ve ended up with 10 or more kids! Instead, God blessed their humble home with 3 children: Sandra Bledsoe, Bruce Dennis (and his wife Linda) and Nedra Gentry (and her husband Scott).

Regarding her family, Patricia has said “When I said this ‘LOVE THING’ is explosive, I guess you know what I mean! You’ll find that these grandbabies are like popcorn. They just keep popping up!” Her grandchildren are: Paula Gross/Grandma’s ‘Dumplin’ (and her husband Christopher), Tanya Mobley/Grandma’s ‘Sweet Pea’ (and her husband Rusty), Samantha Fitzgerald, Joni Griffith, Jeff Bledsoe, Jr. (and his wife Sandhya); Erik Dennis, Anna Bilsky & Brian Dennis; Matt Huett (and Kryssy K) & Kim Huett (and Richard Matula).

And wouldn’t you know it POP, POP, POP-POP there goes that popcorn! She has (so far) 16 “great-grand-babies, and they sure are great”: Lexandra & Louis Mobley; Xavier Fitzgerald; Kaleb, Jacob & Lucas Griffith & Ryleigh Tash; Isabelle Bledsoe; Tanner & Gavin Dennis; Hayden Bilsky & Claire Roach; Tony Huett/Mamaw Patty’s ‘Pumpkin’; Kyleigh, Aton & Jessa Matula.

Many, many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, 2nd cousins, 3rd cousins, people that just say they’re cousins, step-these & step-those...so many others were loved by & impacted in some way by Patricia Dennis.

None of us would she have traded (everybody say it with her now) “...for a farm in Texas with a sow & 10 little piggies!”

Remember, everyone: every day she prayed for the salvation of each and every one of her descendants, that even the family members she would never know in this life would find Christ so to save their souls and meet her in the next life. We owe creedence not just to her legacy, but to ourselves and our children and our children’s children that we should ask Jesus to come live in our hearts so that we could live a life for him.

On a beautiful, sunny Saturday Patricia jumped from fluffy cloud to fluffy cloud, all the way up to Heaven where she could finally run to the open arms of Jesus, dance with her husband Paul (who earned angel wings of his own October 4th, 2003) and embrace many other loved ones.

Friends, family & those touched by the inspiring life of Patricia Dennis are welcome to join us in visitation on Friday, June 5, 2020, from 10am-12noon at Franklin Church of the Nazarene (140 Branigan Rd, Franklin, IN 46131). There, a service will follow at 12noon officiated by Brother J.C. Phillips, with services provided by Flanner Buchanan. After, a smaller procession of immediate family will lead to a private, graveside service at Washington Park East Cemetery (10612 E Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229). Here, Patricia will finally have eternal rest beside her beloved Paul.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Patricia’s wishes that any memorial contributions be made to the Wesleyan Christian Church (725 E. Iowa Street, Indianapolis, IN 46203).

Thank you for your continued prayers, and be sweet for Jesus.
