Ed Ziemann, a man of good humor with a beautiful smile, got his wings early Monday morning about the time he used to get up to start his workday. All of us who knew him and love him will miss him greatly here. And all who greeted him on the other side are cheering with open arms. Edward William Ziemann was born in Madelia, MN to William and Leone (Helgeson) Ziemann. The family moved to Detroit Lakes where Ed attended school from 1st grade until his graduation in 1954. On July 2, 1955 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Gustafson in Detroit Lakes, MN. They were blessed with four children. After living in Fergus Falls for a short time, they moved to Park Rapids where Ed began his life-long career as a meat department manager, working first at John’s Super Valu and then for J & B Foods. Ed was a longtime member at Calvary Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening, was a team bowler, a past member of the Park Rapids Jaycees, and enjoyed painting and drawing while in high school. Ed was an avid bow hunter and handcrafted beautiful bows. He won trophies in archery and made many bow hunting trips to the Rocky Mountains. Ed fixed anything that needed fixing. He had a tremendous work ethic which he passed on to his family. Kind hearted, good humored, and a constant joker, sometimes it was difficult to get a straight answer. Though challenged by dementia the last few years here, which robbed him of some of his words, he was always glad to see everyone and maintained his sense of humor. Those left behind are his children, David (Jen Estochen) Ziemann of Coon Rapids, MN, Jamie (Mark) Jokela of Osage, MN, Tim Ziemann of Park Rapids, MN, and Jody (Rick Amsberry) Ziemann of Park Rapids; his grandchildren, Alexander (Julia Nemeth and daughter Zsofia) Ziemann, Reagan Ziemann, Walker Ziemann, Beckett Ziemann, Zachariah (Alex) Jokela, and Sibinee Jokela; his sister, Jean (Jim) Palashweski; brother-in-law Jerry Kohler; his surrogate grandson, John Wiederin and his family; his longtime companion, Joyce Walczak; all the loving caregivers, friends and fellow tenants at Diamond Willow; and a host of other family and friends. Those who greeted him are his wife, Dorothy; his parents, William and Leone; his sister, Patricia Kohler; and numerous family members and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. with a tribute service at 4:00 p.m. at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN. Friends may leave online condolences at ceasefuneralhome.com. Arrangements are being handled by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids, MN.
