Born on the Dyrland Farm near Ferkingstad, on Karmoy Island in Rogaland county, Norway to Jan Ingebretsen Dyrland and Kristine Andersdtr, Andreas Jansen Dyrland arrived in the USA in 1866 and settled in the Winneshiek Co area of Iowa. He met fellow Norwegian and Karmoy native, Dorthea Helen Risdahl and they were married in Iowa on 25 Feb 1872. Andrew became a naturalized citizen on 11 Jan 1886. The couple and some children can be found in Minnesota in the 1900 census but they moved back to Winneshiek Co, Iowa by 1910 and remained there. Andrew was a farmer by trade.
