Festina and St. Lucas in Winneshiek County Iowa were other communities that were settled by German immigrants and there was much back and forth with Willey residents. At age 27, he married Margaret (Maggie) Tillman, age 19, in Festina on February 29, 1892. Edward and Maggie first lived in the Willey, Iowa area where their first 2 children, Anthony and Ferdinand were born. Sometime between 1895-1897 they moved to Festina. They added on to their family with Mary Ann, Raymond, Albertine, Emma, Joseph, Albert and Marie (died at birth). Albertine and Emma died of diphtheria in 1905. Albertine, Emma and Marie are buried at the St Mary's Cemetery in Festina. Ed was a day-hired hand during the summer and took care of the cemetery. He would help dig graves for the cemetery. In the winter he made wood for the church and the school.
In 1919, Edward worked for Frank Gesing. One Saturday, Ed had taken a load of oats to Fort Atkinson to be ground. He returned to the farm and was walking home when, crossing a stile, he suffered a heart attack and died. Maggie saw Frank Gesing in church on Sunday morning and asked where Ed was. It was then that they went looking and found him. Ed died on September 16, 1919 and is buried at the St Mary's Cemetery, Festina, Iowa; he was 53 years old.
