Fr. Gabriel, baptized Henry, was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 28, 1885. After completing his high school studies at St. Xavier, Louisville, and St. Francis in Trenton, New Jersey, he was received into the Order. He made Profession at Syracuse, New York, October 6, 1901. He was sent to Innsbruck to study theology and was ordained a priest there on July 26, 1907.When he returned to the States, he was assigned to teach Latin and English at St. Francis in Trenton. He served as Assistant Pastor in several of our parishes and for several years taught Moral Theology and Canon Law at Rensselaer, New York. From 1928 until he retired from active ministry, he was Pastor at St. Ann in Chicago Heights; in Waupun, at St. Edward, Carlsbad; at St. Anthony, Artesia. Failing eyesight forced him into retirement. He returned to the Mount and in his last years did a bit of teaching again, as he was asked to instruct several older students in Latin. Despite poor eyesight, he made very effort to be faithful in praying the daily Office. He served as confessor to many friars and added to community life and recreation by his wit and wisdom. On May 15, 1962, Father Gabriel died. That very day, he had celebrated the Eucharist.

May he and all the departed brothers, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
