W. J. KUEHL IS HEART VICTIM LATE SUNDAY
Veteran Decorator Drops Dead On Indiana Avenue At Age of 71.

Death came swiftly to William J. Kuehl, 502 North Garfield avenue, veteran painting and decorating contractor, around 5:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
Stricken with a heart attack, Kuehl fell dead on Indiana avenue, just east of Franklin avenue, while enroute to the home of his son, Elden Kuehl proprietor of the Valparaiso Feed Company, 55 Michigan avenue. He had attended the afternoon show at Premier theater.
George Harrington, living on south Locust street, discovered Mr. Kuehl lying on the sidewalk. Dr. Ralph C. Eades was summoned and pronounced him dead.
The decedent was born in Valparaiso on Sept. 24, 1868, a son of John Kuhel and Catherine (Harbeck) Kuehl. When a young man he learned the painting and decorating trade and followed it for nearly fifty years.
In 1925 when the Lutheran University association took over Valparaiso university, Kuehl was placed in charge of painting and decorating of university buildings. He held this position until 1932, when ill health compelled him to relinquish the position. Three years ago he suffered a second health break.
For several years Kuehl assisted his son, Eldon, in the feed business on Michigan avenue. He enjoyed a wide acquaintanceship among the farmers of Porter county.
On Feb. 12, 1902, he was united in marriage to Minnie Mitzner, who preceded him in death on April 12, 1913.
Surviving are three children, Mrs. Lyal Williamson of Malden; Elden Kuehl, of Valparaiso, and Mrs. Allegra Shinabarger, of Valparaiso; nine grandchildren; one brother, Emil Kuehl, living south of Valparaiso, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Erler, of Valparaiso.
Kuehl was a life member of the Immanuel Lutheran church. Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 o'clock at the LePell funeral home on Monroe street, and at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran church, Rev. H. H. Kumnick, dean of students of Valparaiso university, officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
Friends will be received at the LePell funeral home from 4 p.m. this afternoon up until time of the services.
