Rites Held Friday For Mrs. Gretje Osterbuhr At Grant Church
Gretje Johanna Osterbuhr, daughter of John A. Dirks and his wife,
Anna, nee Zimmerman, was born June 17, 1872, near Mount Olive, Ill. When about two years old she came with her parents in a covered wagon to Plymouth County and they located in Grant Township. Here she received her education in church and school and grew up to womanhood. April 18, 1886, she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On March 17, 1893, she was married to Gerd Osterbuhr of Grant Township. Twelve children were born to this union, of which three children, Hannah, Anna, and John preceded her in death. Her husband passed away on March 6, 1944. She lived on her present farm for 50 years.
The last few years she was a semi invalid. About ten weeks ago, she became seriously ill and was taken to the Sacred Heart hospital where she passed away Monday, June 28 at 9 p.m. She thus reached the age of 76 years and 11 days. All her life she was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran church and was a charter member of the Ladies Aid Society since May, 1919. She also was a member of the Women's Missionary Federation.
She is survived by nine children: Mrs. Mary Johnson, Ada, Minn.; Mrs. Meta Schmidt of Grant Township, Otto and Francis at home, John of Elk Point, S.D., George of New Douglas, Ill., Mrs. Esther Popken and Dick both of Grant Township, Herman of Blachly, Oregon. Also by 22 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 2, in the Grant Township Lutheran church with Rev. F.O. Bunge officiating and burial was in the church cemetery.
