Obituary from the Weston Democrat Wednesday September 14, 2016: Mary (Kay) Catherine Atkins, born November 21, 1942, in Clarksburg, WV passed away peacefully at her home in Aberdeen, MD on September 8, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Paul Edward Avington and Anna Rebecca Kraus Avington. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by an infant daughter, Annie. She is survived by her husband of 53 years Marvin Ray Atkins of Aberdeen; daughter, Lisa Kay Atkins of Bel Air; son, Christopher Paul (Beth) Atkins of Bel Air; granddaughter, Nicole Smith and her daughter, Hanna Street, of Bel Air and granddaughter, Chailey Catherine Atkins of Bel Air. She is also survived by sisters, Millie A. (John) Kozar of Arlington, VA and Martha R. (Steve) Pickens of Weston; brother, Paul E. (Nancy) Avington, Jr., of Weston, plus five nieces, five nephews and her very best friend, Christina (David) Scott of Bel Air, MD. She was a devoted Catholic and was a long-time member of the Saint Joan of Arc Church Bereavement committee in Aberdeen. She enjoyed traveling and was lucky to do so with her husband while in the army and during a second career after military retirement. Her favorite spots to travel to were Petra, Jordan, and a cruise down the Nile in Egypt. She was a gourmet cook and her greatest passion in life was creating wonderful dishes for family and friends. She will be sorely missed by all her family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, September 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
