Leon J. Lueken, Sr., age 81, of Huntingburg, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2020, at Ascencion St. Vincent in Evansville. He was born May 13, 1939, in Holland, to Roman and Florence (Schaefer) Lueken.
He married Ruth M. Mills on May 29, 1965, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. Leon graduated from Holland High School in 1957; served in the United States Army; was a long-time adult leader in Boy Scout Troop 181 and retired from Jasper Engines and Transmissions. He was a member of Holland American Legion Post 343, Huntingburg Y.M.I., a passed Grand Knight of St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society, St. Vincent DePaul and the Huntingburg Conservation Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. Lueken, who passed away on February 12, 2018; his parents; and one son, Kevin R. Lueken.
He is survived by three sons, Leon J. Lueken, Jr. of Midlothian, Texas, Mark A. Lueken of Phoenix, Arizona and Chad D. (Yvonne) Lueken of Jasper; one brother, David Lueken of Jasper; by sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral mass for Leon J. Lueken, Sr. will be held at 10:00 a.m. E.D.T., Friday, October 16, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Holland American Legion Post 343. Father Biju Thomas will officiate the service. Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 15th. A parish rosary will be held at 5:00 p.m.
