Well Known Resident of Craig Vicinity Is Laid To Rest
On Thursday night, July 16, at 7 p. m., Mrs. John Meier, residing two miles north of Craig, passed away, after a lingering sickness. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at Craig with Rev. Zibell officiating. Burial was made at the Christ's Lutheran cemetery in Grant Township immediately following the services at Craig.
Mrs, John Meier nee Rieka Dirks, at the time of her death, was 48 years, 9 months of age. She was born September 25, 1882, in Germany. At the age of three, she came to America with, her parents and settled in Plymouth County. In 1905 she was united in marriage with John Meier at Lennox, S.D. and they later settled on a farm in Grant Township.
Besides her husband, John Meier, she leaves to mourn her loss, seven children three sisters and two brothers. The children are, Mrs. Anna Goosman, Grant Township, Mrs. Hannah Johnson, Ireton, and Katherine, Edna, John, Frank and Clarence, living at home.
Thc sisters, Mrs. Brune Brunken, Le Mars; Mrs. Emil Lauchstadt, Le Mars; Christine Hummels, Germany, and the two brothers, Harm Dirks, San Francisco, and Dick Dirks, Pipestone, Minn.
Mrs. Meier was a good Christian wife and mother, and through her kind deeds and pleasant personality had many friends in the community, who regret her untimely end. She was active in church and community work, and her loss will be greatly felt.
