Colonel Douglas James Proby was the son of Lord Claud Hamilton and Lady Elizabeth Emma Proby.He married Lady Margaret Frances Hely Hutchinson, daughter of Richard John Hely Hutchinson, 4th Earl of Donoughmore of Knocklofty and Thomasina Jocelyn Steele, on 6 July 1882.

Sacred to the memory of Douglas James Proby Sept 23rd 1856 - Nov 18th 1931 only son of Lord Claud Hamilton & Elizabeth Emma daughter of the third Earl of Carysfort and of his wife Margaret Frances Feb 8th 1857 - March 2nd 1937 second daughter of the 4th Earl of Donoughmore and of Thomasina Jocelyn daughter of Walter Steele. He that hath my commandments and keepeth them he it is that loveth me. I will love him and will manifest myself to him.
