BURTON J. LEE JR., A BANKER, IS DEAD
Vice President of the First National City was 54

COLD SPRING HARBOR, L.I., July 23 – Burton James Lee Jr., a vice president of the First National City Bank in New York, died yesterday of a heart attack while playing tennis at the Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club. He was 54 years old and lived on Harbor Road here.

Mr. Lee was born in New York City. His parents were the late Dr. Lee, a surgeon and cancer specialist, and the late Mrs. Mabel Kershaw Lee. He was graduated from the Buckley School in New York, Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., and, in 1929, from Yale University.

He then joined the First National City Bank. In 1945 he rose to assistant vice president and in 1951 to vice president. At his death he headed the supervision of the bank's business in Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri. His office was at the bank's uptown headquarters, 399 Park Avenue, New York.

Mr. Lee was treasurer of the Correctional Association of New York, a semi-public body that inspects state, county and city penal institutions and reports annually to the State Legislature.

In World War II, he served with the Army Air Forces in the Middle East and in the China-Burma-India theatre and rose to lieutenant colonel.

He was former president of the Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club and a member of the Racquet and Tennis Club and The Links in New York.

Mr. Lee married twice. His first marriage, to Miss Rosamund Saltonstall Auchincloss, ended in divorce.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Margaret De Wolf Erskine Lee; three sons, Dr. Burton J. Lee 3d of Greenwich, Conn., and Jared E. and Timothy M. Lee, both of Cold Spring Harbor; five daughters, Mrs. Francis I. du Pont 2d of Wilmington, Del.; Mrs. John Lunt of Denver and the Misses Mary Josephine, Marion R. and Cecelia De W. Lee of Cold Spring Harbor.

He also leaves a brother, Frank F. of Garden City, L.I.; a sister, Mrs. Joseph C. Fox of Riverdale, the Bronx; his step-mother, Mrs. Louise Lee of New York, and twelve grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 3P.M. Wednesday at St. John's Protestant Episcopal Church here.
