Alfred O. Munk, 76, of Hendersonville, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Pardee Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born In Austria on April 10, 1925, the son of the late Regina Brunner and Hans Munk. He kf niioiiUDU avtiiuuia ""NsSJ Switzerland, Austria and the United Kingdom, and completed his undergraduate work at Stanford University in 1949. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the European Theater from 1943 to 1945. He was employed by the California-Texas Oil Company from 1949 to 1964 and was the manager of foreign affairs at Amoco Corporation from 1964 until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the board of trustees at the University of North Carolina at Asheville from 1993 until 1999. His love of music brought him to the Brevard Music Center, where he served on the advisory board and the board of directors for many years. He was a member of St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church in Flat Rock. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Frances Munk; one son, Peter Munk, and his wife, Darlene, of East Long Meadow, Mass.; one daughter, Karen Demastus, and her husband, Dale, of Phoenix; a brother, Walter Munk of La Jolla, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
